Silk Screen

Joanell Connelly

Silk screen is a stencil type process of printmaking. A fine mess screen is stretched tightly around a rigid frame. The areas on the screen not to be printed are blocked or masked out.

  1. Fabric is placed on top of a padded surface.
  2. The screen is placed on top of the fabric.
  3. Using a squeegee, textile paints are pressed through the unblocked portion of the screen

There are numerous methods of creating a screen. I choose the following:

  1. Line of Squares: tape was used to create masked areas.
  2. Spiral: craft paint was painted onto the screen surface.  When dry, it creates the mask.
  3. X’s: commercial masking fluid was used.
